Exactly what a surprise this Oregon State Historical Park was for those ! Located about 50 percent way between Salem and Portland, Champoeg is located down the banks from the Willamette River. Champoeg is filled with history, namely the website from the historical vote that declared Oregon as section of the Union.

A hands-on, informative visitor’s center, a working 1800’s farm, barn dances, a museum, gift shop, river access and boat dock, disc golf course and hiking and biking trails all make Champoeg an excellent place to remain for a couple of days. We especially enjoyed the Historic Butteville Store, which has been around operation because the mid 1800’s. The store offers
novelties along with Tillamook ice cream, freshly baked pies and a couple of groceries. The building offers a short tour from the history from the site and also the role from the store with the century. A wooded bike / walking path runs coming from the entrance from the park towards the Historic Butteville Store, located about 2 miles east from the campground. The massive campground is made up of 2 loops, a gaggle RV site and a gaggle tent site. The A and B Loops are extremely different. A loop is shaded by giant oaks, giving the sense of a southern homestead, while sites inside the B loop offer pretty scenery with open skies and much more a prairie feel. We enjoyed the greater spacious sites in loop B, allowing lots of room to line up camp and kids to play. All interior roads and pads are nicely paved and sites offer electric hookups. The park is nicely maintained with clean showers and restrooms. Cabins and yurts are also available for all those without camping gear.
