Jalama County Beach, Lompoc, California

We‘ve been wanting to camp at Jalama Beach for a long time, but the very first come, first served scenario of landing a site never appealed to us. California beaches could be many of the most difficult places inside the country to obtain reservations, so attempting to snag a primary come site almost three hours from our home wasn‘t a way we wanted to reach. Recently, we heard that Jalama was offering reservations, and sure enough, they‘ve joined a reservation system with the County of Santa Barbara. We were able to snag someone’s cancellation for any beautiful summer weekend. Jalama is definitely an isolated beach between Santa Barbara and Pismo Beach. Not visible coming from the 101, you need to exit the 101 and have a small portion Highway 1 towards Jalama Road. Highway 1 is known for being curvy and treacherous in parts ;
luckily which is not the case here. Jalama Road, the only real road in and from Jalama Beach is, however, winding, with hairpin turns, little to no shoulder and lots of coast live oaks with overhanging (and in need of assistance of the pruning on our visit ) branches. Go slowly and carefully along this road. The constructive side, There‘s little traffic along this road and you really are not handling the logging trucks which you often find along Highway 1 further north.

The beach offers day use and camping, both of that very busy during weekends and summer months. Plan on acquiring a reservation, albeit a couple of sites remain first come, first served. The campground has paved interior roads group sites, a store with limited groceries, beer and wine, and hosts the World Famous Jalama Burger in the Jalama Beach Store & Grill. This burger is truly fantastic and rivals my top burger pick. The store and grill open early for breakfast and close fairly early (around 6pm ), so it is busiest time is noon to early afternoon.
Sites generally aren‘t private, offer no shade, and maybe have a fire pit and picnic table. Sites here vary from paved, to dirt, to sand, counting on location. Sites in the tiered hillside are paved and narrower than many sites closer towards the beach. These websites, however, offer spectacular views and water and electric hookups, a pleasant asset with a CA beach ! Sites inside the main area from the campground are either dirt or sand with no hookups. The beachfront sites are with a premium here, and offer you immediate admittance to the beach and a few spectacular sunsets. Sites 1-9 and 17-51 are the foremost cramped, crowded and noisy during peak season. Often, It‘s difficult to inform where one campsite ends and also the other begins with the amount of cars and tents packed into each site. Both nights in our stay We‘re approached by people hoping to pay out us to camp in your spot with us since we had room.

The atmosphere is fun and lively, so if you feel looking for a peaceful getaway, this Isn‘t your place, a minimum of during peak season.
