Deadwood is a superb Old West little town which has an abundant history of mining, devastating fires, cowboys and it is most famously noted to the death of Billy the Kid in Saloon 10. A reenactment of his death is available each evening inside the Saloon, which is valued at a visit to, otherwise to the show, but a minimum of an opportunity to sit inside a real saloon that takes you in time.

We‘ve stayed in Deadwood before, and opted this point to remain at Whistler Gulch during the KOA, as it was eventually a little closer to town but still offered great transportation to town. The campground is literally located inside a gulch previously employed for mining (There‘s even an old mine on-site ! ), and interior roads are steep. We‘re assigned a site
closer towards the front of camp, so we avoided the steeper roads, but were disappointedly delighted which our perimeter site had beautiful views from the Deadwood hills that overlooked a motel chain miniature golf / bumper car and boat / racetrack. From 10 am to 10 pm every day, we heard the roar of racecar engines whizzing all around the track. Sites further straight into the campground (up straight into the gulch more ) eliminate the noise. Sites are typical of most RV parks ; little privacy and tiny space between neighbors. A couple of trees spot the campground and the encompassing hills provide beautiful scenery. Staff here were very friendly and helpful. There‘s a lounging area, sport court, heated pool, laundry, and trolley service to town. The trolley service was great for those, once we don‘t travel having a tow vehicle, and for any nominal fee, we‘d service to town with departure times twice every hour. With great proximity to town, you can easily bike or have a longer walk to town also. All 300+ sites are gravel, offer full hookups, fire rings, picnic tables and therefore are close together. A couple of camping cabins and tent sites can also be found. Most sites are in, even though some pull through sites are available.
